It has been good to have some blue skies and sunshine back this week, although the strong winds are still causing problems for our bowls matches.
South Alicante League: Monday 26th SL Klingons had a bad day at the office, away v GL Maples, 4 points-8, shots 81-87. Winners: Mike Veale, Caroline & John Smyth 28-10, Dee Hoey, Sandra Burrows, Dave Webb 18-13.
Winter League: Wednesday 28th San Luis had a close fought match, home v Country Bowls, finishing with 4 points-6, shots 58-57! Winners: Neil Burrows, Kath Reid, Sandra Burrows, Scott Malden 19-8.
Southern League: Friday 1st, SL Lions had an excellent result at home v SM Apaches, points12-0, 106 shots -55. Well done to everyone: Margaret & Neil Morrison, Ian Kenyon 24-7, Dee Hoey, Pat Reilly, Scott Malden 19-10, Kath Reid, June & Keith Jones 25-14, Neil & Sandra Burrows, Dave Webb 16-13, Mike Veale, Caroline & John Smyth 22-11.
SL Tigers: we travelled down to Country Bowls in the hope of a better result this week v CB Panthers, but with the strong, gusty winds, that seemed unlikely. However somehow we battled through taking 8 points- 4, shots 89-79. Winners: Mary & Phil Lockley, Bob Bromley 23-18, Mike Edwards, Bill Webb, Jim Gracie 21-13, Sheila Cammack, Brian Gardiner, Stewart Hamill 25-8.
SL Leopards were at home to San Miguel Comanches and had a good result; 8 points-4, 103 shots- 68. Winners: Ngaio Baldwin, Les Shannon, Peter Ayres 19-11, Catherine & Noel Morrisroe, Barbara Louis 35-5, Judy Carroll, Gordon Paton, Dave Blackie 21-10.
SL Pumas had a close fought game at home v SM Cherokees, points 6-6, shots 80-86. Winners: Jill Wyatt, Tony Ferreira, Steve Gray 21-11, Brenda Reid, Wayne Howlett, David Whitworth 17-16, Maggie Gray, Neil Cox, Mike Wyatt 15-14.
On Tuesday morning we held the first of our club Championship Finals: the Mixed Rinks.
The teams were: Dee Hoey, Mike Veale, Caroline & John Smyth v Neil Burrows, Kath Reid, Sandra Burrows & Scott Malden. After a close fought match, John’s team were the winners.
