Mixed results for Country Bowls

Country Bowls with Jo Richardson

Country Bowls ‘ Badger’s’ welcomed San Luis ‘Hercules’ on a very hot Monday morning in the Valle Del Sol.  A tight match was guaranteed as is always the case when we meet and Monday was to be no different.

With the leads chopping and changing throughout the game San Luis came out on top winning by 6 shots and sharing the rinks 3 – 3. Well done. A valiant effort from all those taking part in what was a very enjoyable game for both teams.

Country Bowls winning rinks were Salma Hempstead, Peter Robins and Andy Bryce. Dean Webb, Geoff Paylor and Joel Fernandez and John Hassell and John Mallet. A special mention to Dean Webb on his first league game and congratulations on being a part of a winning team. Well done Dean.

Wednesdays match was a different matter when Monte Mar ‘Lords’ came a calling with a score to settle. And settle they did! Overall scores were 2 – 10 in favour to the travelling team.

Peter Dix won the men’s singles in a close 21 – 17 battle, Brenda Jiggins lost 6 – 21 against Jan Gatewood who has now settled the score at one each. Salma Hempstead, Derek Jiggins and Geoff Paylor fought to the end but went down 23 – 29. The rinks were Lynne Bryce, Geoff Eggleton, Pete Robins and John Mallet who just couldn’t find a way in against a strong four from the opponents, losing 11 – 24. Andy Bryce and Trish Dix took the pairs to the very last end just missing out by one shot in a 14 – 15 match that swung back and forward throughout the game.

Overall, while not the score that Country Bowls were looking for, some great bowls were played and all in a friendly atmosphere.

El Rancho Bowls Club.

It was nice to be back in league play this morning, with the Buckskins playing host to La siesta Hornets. The match started in wonderful sunny and wind less conditions, but became windier as time went on, making play quite tricky for all, but we had a splendid morning of bowls.

The rinks were share equally at 3 each, with all Buckskins’ losses being by just the one shot and taking the overall shots by 117-101, a good result all round. Dolly Ford, Pam Harris, and Brian Harris 15-16. Lesley Day, Marion Haynes and Dave Haynes 17-18. Ann Abbott, Bob Day and Malc Elmore 26-15. David Wright, Graham Day and Keith Longshaw 26-25. Tony Abbott, Ann Taylor and Jim Taylor 17-10. Janet Wright, Peter Blackburn and Malc Sykes 16-17.

On Wednesday the VCL match was at Quesada against the Cheetahs, I can do no better than to give you Stew words and views on the match.

For many of the team, if not all of them the evening game at Quesada was a pleasant experience.  A pleasant experience that provided a great result for El Rancho at Quesada, with both teams sharing the rinks and E Rancho taking the overall shots. Ladies singles: Jane Hamill 21-19.

Gents singles: Richard Lee 17-21. Pairs: Carol Rudge and Jim Gracie 26-7. Trips: Bob Easthope, Rob Clark and Stew Hamill 18-18. Rinks: Jean Bagwell, Diane Yates, Len Rudge and John Skipper 18-21. HORADADA BOWLS CLUB by Irene Graham

Back to the league matches again this week after two weeks of Spanish Nationals.  Monday we were away to San Miguel Moors who are the table leaders with 54 points.  It was always going to be a difficult match with their team sprinkled with finalists from the Nationals, but we are proud of our team who put up a great fight on the Moors home turf.   We managed to win on three rinks, but lost the overall shot points as unfortunately one of our teams lost by 19 shots; it can happen to all of us!

Our winning trips were:  Wayne Jackson, Dennis Wade and Roy Thompson 13 – 11

John Goddard, Margaret Odell and Jeff Hier 22 – 15

Yvonne Hurlock, Les Davies and Brian Eatough 18 – 17.

Our thanks also to those who played in the friendly match, albeit sacrificial lambs to the slaughter!  The overall shots were San Miguel Moors 116 Horadada Hawks 95 giving us 6 points and San Miguel 8 points.

This was an excellent result for us, as it keeps us in second place with 40 points.

On Wednesday it was a VCL home match against Greenlands Jasmine.  This was a well needed, well deserved win for Horadada.  We won on 4 different disciplines but I have to mention the Ladies Singles represented by Linda Hier.  This was an extremely close match throughout and Linda was in front by 20 points to 16 but just could not get that last shot.  The opposition just crept up and took the match 21 – 20.  Very well played Linda.

The winning rinks were:

Gents Singles – Terry Hucknall 21 – 16.  Another close match throughout.

Pairs – John Jukes and Wayne Osguthorpe 20 – 15

Triples – Carol Linehan, Jack Linehan and Barry Evans 27 – 13

Rinks – Les Davies, Roy Thompson, Bryan Eatough and Alan Miller 26 – 20

The overall shots were 114 for and 85 against.

Very well played to all our players.  Take a positive from this result as it moves us up ahead of Greenlands.

Keep ‘em bowls a rollin’ team!!

Horadada offers a warm welcome to new or experienced bowlers, and provides the necessary equipment.  Our roll-up days for this friendly club are Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings.  Please contact Fred Trigwell on 659139129 for more information.
