La Marina Bowls with Dave Hadaway
La Marina Bowls with Dave Hadaway

La Marina Report by Barry Latham

So it goes on at the moment, nothing last week, nothing this week so far.  The Pathfinders travelled over to the Emerald Isle to face the Neptunes and it seems that most of them used their tridents to good effect. We did have two winners though namely Martin Butler, Peter Bailey and George Furzer with a 16-12 victory and John Withers, Angie Butler and Mo Taylor won 21-9.  So overall we lost 10-4.

The Explorers played at home against San Miguel Meteors and unfortunately lost 9-5.  The Hadaways did us proud but on this occasion Margaret Finlayson just outdid them with a 19-13 win with much help from Cliff Rawlinson and Anne Stone.  Dave Hadaway, Mike Smith and Hilary Cronk won 15-11 and our Shirley came away with a fifteen all draw with Jim Reeves and Roger Stacey giving a good contribution to the result.

At last a win 7-5 up at Bonalba with some funny old results on the last end with one rink winning, one rink losing and one rink drawing when they should have won. John Rae and his other three of Steve Hindle, Kathy Manning and Janet Parsons won theirs on the last end. Barry Latham, Peter Parsons, Wendy Latham and Mo Kidd were the naughty ones but having said that their number 3 had two astonishing woods to get the four to draw 18-18. We got the overall score and the two points thanks to Don Fowkes, Mike Stone, Mike Smith and Jean Fowkes winning 27-6. Great stuff.

Half and half on Friday with the Merlins losing away to La Siesta Blues 10-4.  Bill Jones kept up his winning streak with Dave McGaw and Reg Jackson in a close fought game 19-18 but Dave Taylor and his little gang went mad for the last game and he , Martin Butler and Mo Taylor won 24 -8.

On the other hand the Ospreys really did have good seasons finish at home against Monte Mar Matadors winning all rinks but one. The opposition got stuck on eleven in three of the games.  Dave Hadaway, Mike Stone and Anne Stone won 23-11.  Don Fowkes, Tom Spencer and Jean Fowles won 22-11 and Shirley Hadaway, Phil Pape and Kathy Manning won 25-11.  25-14 was the winning score for Peter Parsons, Jim Reeves and Margaret McLaughlin.  To top the lot was our Scottish Joker, Alex Whyte who helped by Cliff Rawlinson and Janet Parsons won 36-6.

Well done and well done to all the players who have supported the Southern League Teams this season.
